Hendershot, Cannon, Martin & Hisey, P.C. is pleased to announce that firm Attorney Raymond Panneton was recently named the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division “Star of the Year,” and received approval from the ABA on a recent book proposal. Both of these significant achievements speak volumes about his accomplishments as a trial attorney and the respect he has cultivated among legal peers.
The Star of the Year award is open to any of the 130,000+ members of the ABA Young Lawyers Division, which is committed to facilitating the needs of the newest members of the American Bar Association, one of the largest professional organizations in the world, and to providing young attorneys with opportunities and tools for professional growth.
Mr. Panneton is a committed member of the American Bar Association, but it was his work as editor-in-chief of The Affiliate that brought home the award. A resource guide for bar leaders nationwide, The Affiliate is one of two publications of the ABA YLD. As editor-in-chief, Mr. Panneton helped take the traditional format of the publication and launch it digitally in a blog format that is available online. His role in furthering access to the ABA YLD newsletter, which features important industry news and legal discussion, is a benefit to all lawyers, including new lawyers who join the ABA and seek networking and leadership opportunities that help them grow their practice and establish firm footing in the industry.
Mr. Panneton’s other achievement came when the ABA Section of Tort, Trial and Insurance Practice voted and approved his recent book proposal. The approved book deal focuses on the use of medical records in litigation from intake through trial, the practical implications of using medical records to effectively manage client expectations during the litigation process, and HIPAA and data security issues facing attorneys whose practice requires the use of medical records. Such information, presented as a “how-to” guide and complete with checklists, can aid law students and lawyers who advocate for victims in medical malpractice and personal injury claims, as well as those who wish to use medical records to effectively defend cases.
The book, currently under its working title The Sword and The Shield: Effectively Using Medical Records During Litigation will be published and marketed by the ABA, thereby adding prestige and authority to the literature, and increasing its availability to attorneys and law schools nationwide who can utilize it not only as a cover-to-cover read, but also a go-to reference guide. Publication date is tentatively set for September 2018, after which it will be available for purchase through the ABA and other potential book retailers.
